Wedding Dress Not Required

Not too long ago, I had a conversation with a close friend of mine about doing a portrait session of her and her husband. At the very end of the conversation, she offhandedly says, "I can pull out my wedding dress." The immediate response that popped into my head was "I don't need to attract any wedding clients!" (I'll get into that on another blog, lol!) But as I thought about the conversation later in the day, I realized that most people feel like there needs to be a special occasion to have their portrait taken, such as a wedding. But why not "just because"?

Growing up with my "momtog" (see my blog "Narrowing My Focus"), I believe she also owned stock in Olan Mills. Does anyone remember them? Those faux backgrounds with stiff poses and forced smiles? Thank goodness family portraiture has evolved from there. Anyway... every couple of years, mom would drag our little family - and sometimes the extended family - to the local portrait studio. She didn't need a reason other than simply wanting to have a pro capture the various stages of our life no matter how awkward and gawky we were. As my sister and I grew up, moved away and then mom got sick, the professional family portraits ended. But I wish we had hired a pro one last time, just because...... because you never know what tomorrow may bring.

So here is my request to you. Gather your family, your other half or just yourself. Find a photographer who’s work you admire and hire them to capture you at this moment in your life. No wedding dress required.

To book your portrait session, fill out the online form or send me a text.

'til next time!

Kristina

PS. Sorry for the lack of photos on this blog. I planned to include some of those old family portraits but big sister gave a blatant “no way” to that idea.
